Highlights of 2011-2012

 

David Crockett FFA 2011-2012 HIGHLIGHTS: 


National Chapter Award - 3 Stars out of 3 Stars
= Awarded at National FFA Convention, 1 of only 20 chapters in Tennessee to win the award and only 1 of 8 to win 3 stars.  Award is based on student development, chapter development, and community development. 26263/p914368459_29305.jpg

National FFA Convention – Indianapolis, IN = 13 members attended energetic sessions, heard motivational speakers, and engaged in leadership workshops.

National Forestry CDE Team = The State Champion FFA Forestry Team competed in the National Forestry Contest and placed 11th, winning a Gold Emblem Award. Members were Bryce Bateman  (11th high individual in nation), Kareena Jones, Brittany Sparks (18th high individual in nation), and Rebekah Wright.

National FFA Officer Experience = 13 members hosted the National FFA Officer Team in 2011 and attended the National FFA Officer Leadership Workshop in Middle Tennessee in 2012. 

Nursery and Landscaping CDE Team = State Champions! The team competed in the State Nursery and Landscaping CDE and placed 1st.  Members are Bryce Bateman, Kareena Jones, Jonathan Lykins, and Rebekah Wright. They will compete in the National Nursery and Landscaping CDE in October at the National FFA Convention.

Envirothon = State Runner-Up! Regional Champions! Bryce Bateman, Kareena Jones, Raini Rowenhorst, Sydney Sexton, and Rebekah Wright won the Regional Envirothon and placed 2nd in the State Envirothon Contest in May 2012. 
The State Envirothon includes the 10 regional winning teams. David Crockett finished just 29 points from 1st place out of 700 possible points. State Runner-Up is quite an accomplishment!

The competition consists of 5 components that relate to Biology, Agriculture, and Natural Resources: Aquatics, Soils, Forestry, Wildlife, and a Current Environmental Issue.  Also, the team had to prepare a presentation based on an environmental scenario given at the contest.

Other FFA Contests= include: Creed (Chase Partin, 1st place, District CDE)

  Dairy Judging (4th place team at Appalachian Fair, 2nd of TN teams)

  Job Interview (Rebekah Wright, 1st place, District CDE; 3rd place, Regional CDE)

  Land Judging (2nd place, District CDE)

  Opening/Closing Ceremonies (3rd place, District CDE)

  Prepared Public Speaking (Jonathan Lykins, 2nd place, District CDE; 3rd place, Regional CDE)

Community Service = Ronald McDonald House volunteering and cooking for guests

- Jonesborough Gardens – partner with Tuesday Garden Club to maintain library garden

- Presentations given at Washington County Commissioners Meeting and School Board

- Washington County Animal Shelter volunteering

- Nursing Home visits

- Animal Exhibits at Jonesborough Days, Rhythym and Roots Festival, Bristol Christmas Parade

National FFA Week Activities = involving community service, a Chapter Breakfast, and a Goodwill Tour Visit

State FFA Degrees = 7 members received their State FFA Degree at the State FFA Convention in Gatlinburg: Bryce Bateman, Kareena Jones, Kayla Jones, Jonathan Lykins, Raini Rowenhorst, Jed Sayre, Sydney Sexton.

Honorary State FFA Degree = Mr. Ron Dykes was nominated and received the Honorary State FFA Degree at the State FFA Convention. 

Agriscience Fair = Chase Partin is a State Winner after placing 1st in his division in the State FFA Agriscience Fair during the State FFA Convention.  Hunter Morrow and Bryce Bateman placed 3rd in their division in the State FFA Agriscience Fair.

National FFA Chapter Challenge = FFA members were challenged by National FFA in tallying the most votes for their chapter in one month in the Chapter Challenge. David Crockett FFA received the 3rd most votes in Tennessee and received $1,500 for a reward.

Academics = The GPA of the FFA Officer Team is a combined 3.71 out of 4.00 while taking a total of 24 advanced level classes.
